Bazaar Industrial is a platform where customers can easily find raw materials and request for inquiry or a quotation. Bazaar industrial was launched in 2023 and is one of the few digital platforms currently providing services to Pakistan's industrial sector.
Our team began with a well-structured research plan that included both market visits and user interviews. Prior to on the ground interviews, we identified and targeted key markets where traders were dealing with industrial chemicals and raw materials. This thorough user research revealed several critical insights:
Product authenticity and quality
Traders struggle with verifying the authenticity and quality of raw materials, often relying on inconsistent supplier standards. This creates trust issues and increases their workload, as manual checks or expensive third-party certifications are required to ensure product reliability.
Frequent need for calls due to constant price fluctuations
Traders frequently make calls to track fluctuating prices, leading to inefficiencies and lost deals. The constant back-and-forth with suppliers delays decision-making, highlighting the need for real-time pricing updates to streamline transactions.
Challenging delivery and handling processes
Importing raw materials is fraught with issues like shipment delays, product damage, and complex licensing. These challenges disrupt operations and lead to inconsistent product availability, making delivery reliability a key concern for traders.
Currently, traders must frequently contact dealers by phone to obtain up-to-date pricing, leading to constant back-and-forth communication that often causes deals to fall through. Additionally, traders face challenges with importing raw materials from various countries, requiring them to navigate lengthy import licensing processes. On top of that, shipment delays, product availability issues, storage limitations, and product damage further complicate the process, creating a frustrating experience that hinders efficiency.
To gain a deeper understanding of the industrial supply chain and how traders interact with sourcing platforms, we conducted a competitor analysis. This process revealed key insights and trends that influenced our approach:
Competitors provide clear and transparent pricing information upfront, allowing traders to make quick purchasing decisions.
They have streamlined onboarding processes that guide users through initial setup with minimal friction, ensuring higher engagement from the start.
Their platforms offer real-time updates on order status and logistics, reducing uncertainty and improving user confidence.
The entire transaction flow, from procurement to delivery, is managed digitally, minimizing manual interventions and delays.
This analysis helped us identify opportunities to differentiate our offering by focusing on the specific pain points and needs of our target users.
Field Research: Visiting busy markets under harsh weather, convincing traders to talk, and documenting feedback simultaneously was difficult.
Adoption Resistance: Many customers are accustomed to phone calls and manual notebooks, but our research indicated that traders so through several challenges because of the manual processes and they need a solution which can make the processes faster, easier and cost effective for them. Majority of the customers were surprisingly pretty familiar with online services and did not struggle using various Apps on mobile devices.
Next Steps
We'll integrate Hotjar to track user interactions and refine the platform. The next major challenge will be driving adoption among a customer base still reliant heavily on phone calls and traditional methods.
